All the community is welcome to come along to Richards Park, Norwood on Sunday October 26 for our family fun day. Bring along a picnic hamper, learn about our history, join in on the family activities, kindy concert and a special birthday presentation.
Across the day fundraising raffles will be drawn. All money raised will be used to improve facilities at the centre such as building works and play equipment.
Thanks to our talented cook, the children at Margaret Ives not only eat healthy and tasty food, but learn about other cultures, too.
Cultural inclusion through food is a great way to learn and the menu at Margaret Ives has been created to reflect the mix of nationalities represented in the Australian community. It also recognises the fact that children are now very familiar with eating in restaurants with their parents, experiencing different tastes and textures.
Cultural diversity is well represented through our main course dishes. Our menu includes Beef rendang, Fettuccine alla panna, Corned silverside and mashed potato and Butter chicken and rice.
Check out a sample of our menu here.
We also offer meals to accompany important celebrations including Chinese New Year and Shrove Tuesday / Pancake Day.
Parents or grandparents are often invited into the centre to cook a simple dish from their own culture for the children to taste and talk about. If you are interested in making a contribution, please feel free to contact our Director.
Last year, the creative team from Windmill Performing Arts visited Margaret Ives to work with our babies and toddlers during the development of their show 'Cat', based on the book by Mike Dumbleton and Craig Smith. The performance was created from 'Picture Book to Performance', a literacy initiative between Windmill and The Advertiser Little Big Book Club.
Following the enormous success of this production, we are delighted that Windmill once again visited our Centre during March to workshop the production of 'Boom Bah', based on the book by Phil Cummings and Nina Rycroft. This is the third production Windmill has developed especially for babies and toddlers and we are proud that Margaret Ives has made such an important contribution to Arts Education in South Australia.
Our new SMART Board is an exciting step forward for Margaret Ives. SMART Board is the world's leading interactive whiteboard, combining the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of a computer.
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard has a touch-sensitive display that connects to a computer and digital projector to show a computer image. Computer applications can be controlled directly from the display. We can also write notes in digital ink and save work to share later.
Best of all, the SMART Board interactive whiteboard is incredibly easy to use – the kindy children are using it already.
We are especially proud of the fact that, to our knowledge, we are the only Community Children's Centre in our region to own a SMART Board, which will be a significant learning tool for our children. An information session for parents will be held in the near future.
Our babies are enjoying eight weeks of 'Dance for Babies' classes. The sessions are conducted by Sally Chance, who has been involved in a range of community-based workshops, which investigate the role of dance and movement in the lives of babies and children under 4.
In each session the baby staff and babies are involved in a range of gentle, hands on, dance and movement ideas which have been designed to support the infant-carer relationship. We invite parents to stay for a session or find out more about these delightful workshops which will continue until the end of March.
A special kindy night was held on Wednesday, February 13 for all new and current kindergarten parents. This was a great opportunity for parents to get to know our kindergarten staff and meet other parents.
