Health, safety and security

Our centre is committed to the health, safety and security of every child in our care, from the policies and procedures we follow to the supervision and programs we provide.

Health

One of our most important goals is to provide a safe and hygienic environment that will promote the health of children and staff. As a general principle, children and adults should not come to the centre unless they are well and able to cope adequately with the normal daily routines and activities. Our policy on the Care of Unwell Children covers all of these details.

To assist our staff in providing the best possible care for your children, we recommend use of the forms below. Produced by Child Health and Education Support Services, (CHESS) they will enable you to provide health care plans to our staff for some of the most common illnesses and conditions. For other conditions and more information, please go to the CHESS website and click on 'Pathways' on the home page.

Safety and security

Our staff follow specific procedures to ensure the safety and security of your child. These include…

  • On arrival and on leaving, parents or guardians must ‘sign in’ and sign out’ their child and ensure they speak with a staff member, preferably the primary carer.
  • A parent's authority (preferably in writing) is required if another person is to collect your child. We will not allow your child to leave the Centre with another person without your authority.
  • The Centre has a detailed policy that includes procedures to minimise risks to children and adults. Most staff have first aid qualifications. Evacuation procedures are displayed prominently in the Centre and are regularly reviewed. Fire drills are held each term.
  • We provide a safe environment in which children can develop to their full potential.
  • Our policies and practice reflect a commitment to the safety and protection of children and to providing a child-safe environment. Please refer to the Child Protection Policy on our Policies page for more information.
